Engineering Technician III
- Computer Skills: Establish and apply procedures to manage the history, locations, access and format of survey related project files. Complete work processes using multiple survey, CADD, and digital terrain modeling software, as well as other non-CADD applications.
- Engineering Surveys: Conduct a wide range of field survey activities for transportation projects from scoping to post-construction. Follow VDOT policies and procedures and APELSCIDLA rules and regulations governing survey activities. Use a variety of surveying equipment and tools to locate and record field data. Conduct courthouse research on plats.
- Quality Control: Perform quality control reviews of work products, both in the field and office, to ensure products are accurate and depict the project controls and data to support the project. View plans or plats at the different developmental stages for compliance to standards.

- Time Management: Perform surveying and mapping functions in accordance with project scheduling and in support of VDOT programs. Perform tasks on one or more projects, adjusting priorities as needed. Coordinate the flow of information, both orally and in writing, to and from others, to contribute to project development.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.

- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

- Knowledge of field survey equipment (data collectors, GPS, robotic total station, levels, etc.).
- Knowledge of surveying principles and practices to include location, right of way and construction survey activities.
- Skill in providing good customer service.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
- Skill in the use of surveying instruments and tools, including programmable calculators and electronic data collection equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with customers and follow oral and written instructions.

- A combination of training, experience, or education in Engineering, Engineering Techology or related field desired.
- Experience conducting surveys for transportation projects.
- Land Survey License, Land Surveyor in Training Certificate or Survey Apprenticeship Certification.
