Managing Family Law Paralegal

Price Benowitz LLP is seeking an experienced Managing Family Law Paralegal to lead and support our growing Family Law Paralegal team. This is both a hands-on paralegal and people leadership role. The Managing Family Law Paralegal will maintain an active caseload while overseeing the day-to-day operations, training, workflow, and development of our Family Law Paralegal team across multiple jurisdictions. Extensive experience with Virginia family law is required , as this individual will serve as the primary resource for Virginia family law procedures and provide ongoing coaching and guidance to our Virginia-based legal support team. While Virginia experience is essential, the position may be based in Fairfax, Washington, DC, Leesburg, or another nearby office. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who enjoys mentoring others, improving processes, maintaining high-quality work product, and partnering closely with attorneys to ensure exceptional client service. Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Family Law Paralegal team across multiple offices.
- Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback to paralegals, with particular emphasis on Virginia family law procedures and best practices.
- Serve as the primary resource for questions involving Virginia family law practice and procedure.
- Monitor workloads and assist with case assignments to ensure appropriate staffing and balanced distribution of work.
- Establish and maintain consistent workflows, templates, and best practices across the department.
- Collaborate with local supervisors in Washington, DC and Maryland to ensure consistency in quality, training, and performance across all jurisdictions.
- Partner with attorneys and firm leadership to identify operational improvements and implement department-wide initiatives.
- Assist with onboarding and training new paralegals and legal assistants.
- Provide comprehensive support throughout all phases of family law litigation, including divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, protective orders, contempt actions, and post-judgment matters.
- Draft, review, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery, financial disclosures, settlement agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Prepare and file pleadings while ensuring compliance with jurisdiction-specific court rules and deadlines.
- Review and organize financial records and discovery materials.
- Coordinate depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial preparation.
- Prepare trial notebooks, hearing binders, exhibits, and witness files.
- Monitor case progress and proactively identify issues before they impact deadlines or client service.
- Maintain organized electronic case files and ensure adherence to firm standards.
- Minimum of 3 years of family law paralegal experience.
- Extensive experience handling Virginia family law matters from inception through trial and post-judgment proceedings.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience managing, mentoring, or training paralegals or legal support staff.
- Strong working knowledge of Virginia family law procedures, court rules, and filing requirements.
- Experience with Washington, DC and/or Maryland family law is a plus.
- Exceptional drafting, proofreading, and organizational skills.
- Strong litigation and discovery experience.
- Excellent project management and time management abilities.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple competing deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and client service.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.
