The Department of Public Works is recruiting for one full-time Maintenance Worker II. The individual selected will work in the Public Works Department for the sanitary sewer crew.

The Department of Public Works is a community partner in shaping a livable, green, and prospering City of Falls Church. We plan, build, operate, and maintain transportation systems and infrastructure that improve mobility and provide people and businesses with core public services.
Responsibilities:
- Perform work related to maintaining and repairing the sanitary sewer system including routine cleaning and repair of pipe and structures.
- Perform installation, maintenance construction and repair of streets, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and storm sewer in the City-right-of-way and City-owned property;
- Perform masonry and concrete work including; setting forms, ordering material, pouring and finishing concrete for sidewalk, curb and gutter and storm sewer repair;
- Pe rform work related to leaf vacuum and snow removal operations;
- May perform some pothole and asphalt work including; ordering materials, spreading and compacting material, sealing and finishing;
- Perform traffic sign repair and replacement;
- Perform work related to maintaining the storm drain system including; routine cleaning and repair of pipe and structures;
- Operate trucks, tractors, back-hoe, and other equipment in connection with assigned tasks ;
- Frequent heavy lifting (ability to lift up to 50 pounds);
- Emergency over time work as required;
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) perferred, or ability to obtain CDL within first 6 months of employment, and a good driving record;
- Experience in outdoor manual labor;
- Able to perform manual labor outdoors for extended periods in adverse weather conditions;
- Able to follow oral instructions and work well with others;
- Finalists will be administered a complete physical examination, including a drug screen as well as a criminal history background check;
Special Requirement: This position is considered emergency service personnel; individual selected is required, as a condition of employment, to be available to respond to emergencies.
Salary and Benefits: $53,500 - $57,000 depending on qualifications. Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, plus overtime emergency hours as required.
