ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Summary/Objective:

The Block Plant Manager manages the productivity and overall operations of the assigned Block Plant.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure that company safety regulations and policies are followed at all times. Ensure employees have and wear required PPE. Notify the Area Production Manager and the Safety Manager immediately of any potential or current safety problems.
  2. Oversee all plant operations and personnel at assigned plant. Train, develop, and motivate employees toward accomplishing company goals and objectives; perform performance appraisals as required; respond in a timely manner to employee concerns and/or complaints; and keep personnel records accurate and current.
  3. Hold regular meetings with assigned personnel to review safety issues/concerns, provide information and/or training, update company information.
  4. Ensure that the block plant and related equipment is operating properly at all times; inspect plant for greasing and check oil fluid levels; grease & oil as required; keep plant and equipment clean and free of excess material; ensure all material handling equipment is working.
  5. Schedule and assist with preventative maintenance items.
  6. Ensure all vehicles and equipment continually remain in safe and efficient operating condition by monitoring preventative and regular maintenance on vehicles and equipment and ensuring the vehicles are kept neat and clean.
  7. Maintain adequate levels of all supplies and products (i.e., fuel, cement, admixtures, pallets, raw materials, etc.) and maintain accurate and current reports as required.
  8. Work with Sales and Dispatch to set the production schedule meeting customers’ demands while maintaining efficiency.
  9. Assist Sales and Dispatch in servicing customers by addressing specific problems, providing advice and assistance to customers as needed, and responding to complaints and concerns in a timely manner.
  10. Take samples and perform tests as necessary and complete required documentation/reports. Inform Technical Services of any quality problems that need resolving.
  11. Ensure that proper procedures are followed and documentation is completed after an accident or injury occurs. Notify Safety Department as required.
  12. In an emergency or disaster, the Block Plant Manager is responsible for alerting others and leading an evacuation if needed at assigned facility/location.
  13. Ensure that all company environmental regulations and policies are followed and notify the Area Production Manager and VP/GM immediately of any potential or current environmental problems.
  14. Respond in a timely and courteous manner to all concerns and complaints from residents living near company operations or forward issue to appropriate manager for response and resolution.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions:

  1. Perform any miscellaneous duties that may become necessary, which may include, but is not limited to, cleaning up around the plant and picking up equipment or supplies.
  2. Operate loader (if qualified).
  3. Assist with the clean-up of concrete and material spills.
  4. Fill in for colleagues (at other locations) as needed.
  5. Volunteer and participate in company events.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Work Environment:

  • Work time will be split between indoors/office and outdoors/field
  • Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells.
  • Exposure to chemicals such as concrete, chemical admixtures, grease and oil.
  • Close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level will be moderate to loud.

Physical Demands:

  • Lift a maximum weight of 94 lbs., repetitively lift 50 lbs., carry approximately 50 lbs., and push/pull approximately 50 lbs., and pinch/grip approximately 25 lbs.
  • Reach overhead and reach away from the body. Minimal kneeling, squatting and climbing may be required.
  • Sit 3 hours per day, stand 4 hours per day, and walk 3 hours per day.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • 4 years’ experience in the concrete or masonry industry.
  • Prior managerial or supervisory experience preferred.

Special Skills:

  • Written communication, verbal communication, and basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to use a computer and iPad, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to compute basic material calculations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

Certifications:

  • CPR/First Aid.

Industry Related Experience or Skills:

  • A basic understanding of both the operation and maintenance of block plants and equipment.

Education Required: High School

Preferred Education: College/Undergrad

Bilingual in Spanish Preferred: Yes
