Ultrasonic Cutting Applications Engineer
American GFM, located in Chesapeake Virginia, is a manufacturer of high precision machine tools for the metal working and composites industry. Our product range includes crankshaft and camshaft milling machines, radial forging machines, ultrasonic cutting machines, and composite routing machines.
Ultrasonic Cutting Applications Engineer
The Engineering Department at American GFM is seeking qualified candidates for an Applications Engineering position that will support our new and existing ultrasonic cutting and routing machines throughout North America. The candidate should have special knowledge and interest in 2D and 3D CNC programming. Familiarity with composite structures and general knowledge of composite manufacturing techniques is preferred.
This is a full-time position located in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Subject matter expert for multi-axis ultrasonic cutting and routing machine programming.
- Programming of 4 or 6-axis ultrasonic cutting machines and 5-axis routers using custom software.
- Conduct testing and preside over machine qualifications and acceptance trials.
- Design application-specific tooling using 3D design tools.
- Provide machine-specific training and support in person and over the phone or remotely.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with 2D or 3D CNC machine tool programming.
- Ability to work safely in a variety of different industrial manufacturing environments.
- Independent, accountable, and capable of working unsupervised.
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Creative, innovative, and eager to learn.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a US passport.
- Must complete a background check and physical.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related emphasis from a 4-year accredited college/university.
- Prior work experience in related field.
- Experience in AutoCAD and Inventor or equivalent software.
- Mastery of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Willingness to work overtime.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Comfortable with hands-on use of general shop tools.
Travel:
- This is a high travel position (>50%) with assignments throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico.
- Travel compensation and per diem is provided.
