PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
• Assignment Type: Locum Tenens / Travel Nursing
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• End Date: January 5, 2026
• Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts (06:45 – 19:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1800 - $1840 per week
• Unit: 8W – General Medicine PCU (Pulmonary/GI focus)
• Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Setting: High-acuity, fast-paced hospitalist PCU

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU nursing experience in a large, high-acuity hospital
• BLS & ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) experience required
• Ability to float to other PCU or Med-Surg units as needed
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Must be able to work at least 1 holiday during the assignment; 2 holidays during winter season

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced PCU environment
• Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions and clinical progress
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias; activate rapid response teams as needed
• Administer blood products, manage cardiac drips (no titration), and provide central/peripheral line care
• Implement isolation precautions and non-invasive airway management
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including PT, RT, pharmacy, and others
• Float to other nursing units as required and adapt to changing patient needs
• Utilize EPIC for all charting and clinical documentation
