Desktop Support Technician (Newport News, Virginia)

The Desktop Support Technician under the direction of IT Leadership is responsible for purchasing, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Microsoft and Apple computers / peripherals. Additionally, the Desktop Support Technician is expected to support on-site mobile tablet and smartphone technologies. The Desktop Support Technician will work closely with other members of the technology department to support all local and remote end users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Purchase, set up, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows / Apple computers
- Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows / Android / iOS tablets
- Install and configure desktop software
- Set up and configure printers, scanners, and other peripherals
- Maintain and troubleshoot audio visual equipment
- Document all issues and resolution steps using the help desk ticketing system
- Maintain inventory of all hardware and software resources
- Maintain excellent communication with all end users and other members of the IT department
- Work with outside vendors as needed
- Ensure the consistent use of standard Enterprise images and software packages in all facility desktops laptops.
- Regularly answer helpdesk phone calls
- Participation in project activities involving computers, iPads/tablets, phones, printers, or any other computing device.
- Support and maintain network and firewalls.
- Execute other assigned tasks as delegated by Leadership

Education and/or Experience
Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school

Three to four years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates (preferred but not required): A+, Microsoft Certifications, ITIL, Apple Certifications, Network+

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
