PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Roanoke, Virginia 24014 (Virginia nursing jobs)
• Healthcare Setting: Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 52 weeks)
• Start Date: September 2, 2025
• Shifts: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12 available by request
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1800-$1840
• Patient Ratio: 1:5 typical
• Unit: 7S NCC PCU, Crystal Springs tower (20 beds, 5 for 24-hour epilepsy monitoring)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Compact or Virginia single state (pending VA single state accepted if from non-compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU, step-down, or acute care nursing experience
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (required for PCU nursing jobs)
• Proficiency with Epic EMR charting system
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to work at least one holiday per 13-week contract
• Comfortable with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Not eligible if residing within 100 miles of facility (exceptions for 50-99.9 miles, see details)

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care to adult patients with neurosurgery, stroke, epilepsy monitoring, and other neuro-specific diagnoses
• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias, respond to rapid response calls, and administer blood products
• Care for central and peripheral lines, manage cardiac drips (no titration), and provide non-invasive airway management
• Implement isolation precautions and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, etc.)
• Document patient care using Epic electronic medical records
• Participate in self-scheduling and fulfill required weekend and holiday shifts
