The Position
The Assistant Director of Facilities Management serves as the second-in-command of the Department of Facilities Management and assists the AVP in providing strategic leadership, operational management, and administrative oversight for all aspects of campus facilities operations. The Assistant Director helps ensure that the College’s, infrastructure, utilities, grounds, housekeeping and support systems are maintained in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner while supporting the institution's academic mission and strategic priorities.
Working collaboratively with the Associate Vice President, the Assistant Director provides leadership for maintenance, custodial services, grounds maintenance, preventive maintenance programs, capital renewal initiatives, construction projects, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance. The position serves as acting director when designated and is expected to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and professional leadership.
This position balances strategic planning with active operational oversight and serves as a visible leader who develops strong working relationships across the campus community.
Purpose: The Assistant Director supports the AVP of Facilities and Physical Plant in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating departmental operations while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, customer service, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
The position assists in developing departmental goals and objectives, managing financial and physical resources, supervising personnel, overseeing maintenance and construction activities, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and supporting long-term campus planning initiatives. This position is intended to prepare an experienced facilities’ professional for progressively greater leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership and Administration
Assists the Associate Vice President in providing leadership for all Facilities, Grounds and Housekeeping operations. Serves as Acting AVP during designated absences. Assists in developing departmental strategic plans and establishing operational priorities. Promotes collaboration among work groups and assists in developing departmental policies and procedures.
Supports institutional strategic initiatives and monitors departmental performance metrics. Recommend operational improvements and represent the department on College committees as assigned.
Facilities and Physical Plant Operations
Responsible for assisting with the management of building maintenance, Preventive maintenance, mechanical systems, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, fire alarm systems, carpentry, painting, custodial services, grounds maintenance, utility distribution systems, equipment maintenance, campus infrastructure
Capital Projects and Construction Management
Assist in planning renovation and construction projects, develop project scopes and schedule, review plans and specifications, coordinate contractors and consultants, monitor project budgets, conduct project inspections, ensure contract compliance, coordinate project closeout, support campus master planning initiatives
Budget and Financial Stewardship
Assist with preparation of annual operating budgets, monitor expenditures, review invoices, coordinate purchasing, manage inventories, recommend equipment replacement.
Personnel Management
Supervise assigned employees, assist in recruitment and hiring, Coordinate employee training, conduct performance evaluations, promote employee engagement, develop future leaders, encourage cross-training, foster a positive workplace culture.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Promote workplace safety, assist with OSHA compliance, Support fire and life safety initiatives, conduct facility inspections, coordinate corrective actions, maintain regulatory documentation, promote environmental stewardship, Support institutional risk management.
Emergency Management
Participate in emergency planning, respond to campus emergencies, Coordinate storm preparation and recovery, assist with business continuity planning, participate in on-call rotations, Support emergency operations as required.

Successfully plans and delivers projects by meeting schedules, Controls costs, Coordinates contractors, maintains project quality, Communicates progress.
Emergency Preparedness
Maintains readiness to support campus emergencies, to include responding effectively, coordinates recovery, supports continuity of operations, maintains preparedness plans
Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities :
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates may qualify through education, experience, technical training, professional certifications, or an equivalent combination thereof.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of progressively responsible facilities leadership experience; or
- Associate degree and five years of progressively responsible facilities or physical plant leadership experience; or
- High school diploma and seven years of progressively responsible facilities management, maintenance, construction, or physical plant experience that includes supervisory responsibilities; or
- An equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and directly related experience demonstrating the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
Applicants should also demonstrate experience of supervising personnel, managing projects, coordinating contractors, and maintaining building systems. A valid driver's license is required.

- Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Professional certifications such as CFM, FMP, CEFP, PMP, or relevant skilled trades.
