Diagnostic Radiologic Tech (Hampton)
Summary
Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist perform procedures and examinations in hospitals or clinics under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers. The objective of the examinations and procedures is to produce radiographic studies that are used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by medical officers to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions, or lesions within the body.
Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
- Certification
- All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R)
- Education
- Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program - evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree - accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other recognized accrediting agencies
- Credentialing Standards
- Persons who administer radiologic procedures must meet standards in 42 CFR Part 75, as required by the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, and be certified as radiographers in their field.
- Exception for Non-Certified - Entry Level Candidates
- Non-certified DRTs who meet ARRT requirements may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate DRT under 38 U.S.C. 7405(c)(2)(B). The requirement of certification may be waived for up to two years for DRTs providing care under supervision.
- Loss of Credential
- Failure to obtain or maintain certification within two years may result in removal from the occupation and termination of employment.
- English Language Proficiency
- Proficiency in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Duties
- Perform procedures and examinations under radiologists' supervision
- Produce radiographic studies for diagnosis
- Prepare and administer contrast media and medications following regulations
- Be knowledgeable in digital radiography and PACS
- Conduct radiographic exams of head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, and extremities
- Schedule and evaluate patient procedures, including emergency cases
- Operate various radiology equipment, including portable and C-Arm machines
- Calculate and set technical factors for imaging
- Ensure sterile supplies and equipment are prepared
- Verify patient identity and images accurately
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology
- Additional duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm
