Utility Billing Specialist

Description
Performs intermediate technical work processing and verifying utility billing data, preparing and mailing utility bills, processing customer service requests and billings, preparing and maintaining appropriate records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Account Services Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Prepares monthly utility billings; ensures accounts and meter information has been set up correctly for customer billing; mails bills in a timely manner.
- Reviews and verifies routes; processes hand held and mobile collection devices and runs reports.
- Sets up new customer records and enters initial readings.
- Enters final readings and processes final bills.
- Calculates adjustments for customer accounts.
- Conducts billing audits and analyzes data; enters and verifies work orders for installation, disconnects, meter changes, rate changes, etc.; prepares work orders for re-reads.
- Performs customer service duties such as answering customer complaints and requests; composes routine customer correspondence.

Education & Experience
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in business administration, accounting, or related field and considerable experience in billing, collections, and customer service work in a supervisory role, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General knowledge of utility billing and meter reading terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment; general knowledge of accounting terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to follow detailed work procedures; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Pay: $41,270.88 - $48,410.75 per year
