HSE Safety Specialist - Power & Electric Utility
We’re seeking an experienced HSE Safety Specialist to support a major U.S. electric utility with field safety oversight, control‑of‑work processes, and incident prevention across active utility operations. This role is ideal for a safety professional who thrives in dynamic field environments, understands the unique risks of electrical and distribution work, and can partner with crews and leadership to drive a strong safety culture.

What You’ll Do
- Lead day‑to‑day safety oversight for utility field operations, construction activities, and maintenance work
- Ensure full compliance with Control of Work (CoW) processes, including permit‑to‑work, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and energized work protocols
- Conduct incident investigations , root‑cause analysis, and corrective action development
- Perform field safety audits , jobsite inspections, and behavioral observations to identify hazards and drive continuous improvement
- Support crews working at heights , around energized equipment, and in other high‑risk environments
- Provide coaching, toolbox talks, and safety training reinforcement to field teams
- Partner with project managers, construction supervisors, and engineering teams to ensure safe planning and execution
- Maintain documentation, reporting, and safety metrics for leadership review
- Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and pre‑job planning sessions
What You Bring
Required
- HSE certification (e.g., OSHA 30, CHST, CSP, CUSP, or equivalent)
- Control of Work / Permit‑to‑Work experience (LOTO, hot work, confined space, energized work, etc.)
- Incident investigation experience , including root‑cause analysis
- Experience working at heights (utility poles, bucket trucks, towers, or elevated structures)
- Auditing experience (field audits, safety inspections, compliance reviews)
- Background in power, electric utility, transmission, or distribution environments
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence safe behaviors in the field
- Ability to travel to field sites as needed
Preferred
- Experience supporting construction, maintenance, or distribution line crews
- Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and utility safety standards
- Experience in high‑risk environments such as substations, switching yards, or transmission corridors
- Prior experience in hybrid field/office work environments
